Facing is a project by French photographer Caroline Deloffre.

A project realized a few years ago but so worth to revisit and re-explore.

A project that holds no pretentions and follows no conventions;

a project seeking the truth and pure essence through the beauty and universality of nudity. Photographs dedicated to people given the utter freedom; people freed from everything: no clothes and no possessions. Indeed the only traceable information about these men and women is “read” by their pose and their skin.

The request is simple: To face!

A one to one confrontation accompanied by the warm welcoming of the sea, the beach, and the blue “singing” ocean. 

To face naked, completely naked: to face oneself, to face one another, to face ones body, beautiful and virtuous as it is.

Turn your back; turn your back to conventions, debacles, insecurities, social illusions, taboos, and self-criticism.

The total embracement of the self: Hug me, feel me, look at me, discover me and look beyond the easily perceivable. 

To ignore: to ignore whatever distracts you from your simple “duty”: to enjoy yourself and dive in the simple pleasure of the unbounded moment.

A project with a more than a year duration where the known French photographer, Caroline Deloffre invested in asking strangers to “strip” in all senses and pose at the edge of the inviting blue water with their back turned.

That’s where the beauty of the individual is piled up. A turned back, which is still illuminated by the identity of one, the smile, the dreams, the visions, the past, the present, the future, the far and beyond beauty…

A sincere exploration of the male and female identity; a repetitive aesthetic based on anonymity. 

Anonymous men and women pose either solo or coupled up.

In Deloffre’s photographic series, each body exalts the serenity of the sea they are facing.

The spectator is asked to board on a trip ready to be intrigued, enthralled, amused, and scandalized; above all a voyeur. 

A personal adventure with a common goal: to quench ones thirst for truth.
